Summer Vacation Scheme
Summer Vacation Scheme
-
"As both a career changer and a non-law graduate, I really enjoyed Wedlake Bell’s three-week vacation scheme. Being seated with a new team each week provided a valuable insight into the varied, high-quality work that trainees at the firm get involved with."
Amelia Bloomfield
Amelia attended the Summer Vacation Scheme in 2022. She is currently in the second year of her training contract.
Every July, we offer a three-week Summer Vacation Scheme designed for students considering a career in law.
The scheme provides an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into life at Wedlake Bell, work alongside lawyers across a range of practice areas, and experience the firm's collaborative culture. Participants meet colleagues from across the business and build valuable connections with fellow students and current trainees.
Structured to reflect the trainee experience, the scheme combines hands-on work, training sessions and networking opportunities, giving participants a genuine understanding of what it is like to train at the firm.
Our commitment to excellence extends to the development of future lawyers, and we view the Summer Vacation Scheme as an important part of our trainee recruitment process. Many of our trainee solicitors join the firm through the scheme, making it an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your skills, learn more about the profession and explore whether Wedlake Bell is the right place for you to begin your legal career.

Our Vacation Scheme
The 2027 Summer vacation scheme will run from Monday 21 June 2027 to Friday 9 July 2027.
During each of the three weeks, you will be based within one of our core practice areas and work closely with a fee earner, becoming actively involved in a variety of client matters and day-to-day work.
We are committed to providing Summer Vacation Scheme participants with a genuine insight into life as a trainee solicitor at Wedlake Bell. Wherever possible, you will have the opportunity to attend client meetings, court hearings and internal events, helping you develop a deeper understanding of legal practice and our clients' needs.
You will also be encouraged to spend time with our current trainees, giving you the opportunity to informally discuss their experiences, learn more about our training programme and gain a realistic picture of life at the firm.
In your final week, you will work as part of a group to prepare and deliver a presentation. You will have the opportunity to shape the topic and approach, allowing you to demonstrate your teamwork, creativity and communication skills. The presentations are delivered to a panel of lawyers and current trainees.
As part of our commitment to excellence in developing future lawyers, all Summer Vacation Scheme participants are considered for a Training Contract. At the end of the scheme, you will be invited to attend a Training Contract interview and complete a written assessment.
